Sparta Players Shine at Roland Garros: First Grand Slam Wins, Quarterfinal Runs and Junior Finals Drama

Roland Garros 2025 has wrapped up with plenty of exciting moments and strong Czech performances – and Sparta Prague players made their mark across all categories. From qualifying and the main draw to the junior events, they showed resilience, skill and promise.

This year’s Roland Garros saw a strong representation from Sparta Prague. The club's players were active across all stages of the tournament, delivering career milestones and unforgettable performances.

Qualifying: Valentová and Bejlek Power Through
Four Sparta women entered the Roland Garros qualifiers. Dominika Šalková and Barbora Palicová exited in the opening round, but Tereza Valentová and Sára Bejlek delivered excellent performances, advancing successfully to the main draw.

🎾 Main Draw: First Grand Slam Wins for Valentová and Bejlek
Tereza Valentová faced local wildcard Chloé Paquet in the opening round. After dropping the first set, she came back strong to celebrate her first career Grand Slam main draw win. In the second round, she ran into eventual champion Coco Gauff and lost 2–6, 4–6.

Sára Bejlek had a similar path. After qualifying, she stunned the No. 26 seed Marta Kostyuk in straight sets for her first main draw win at a Slam. In round two, she fell to Jaqueline Cristian in three sets: 6–1, 3–6, 3–6.

Two more Sparta players, Petra Kvitová and Kateřina Siniaková, exited in the first round, while Marie Bouzkováreached the third round before losing to champion Coco Gauff, equalling her best result at Roland Garros.

👫 Doubles Action: Siniaková in Quarterfinals, Tough Draw for Men
In women’s doubles, Kateřina Siniaková partnered with Taylor Townsend and reached the quarterfinals, where they lost to the eventual finalists.

In the men's doubles, Sparta's Patrik Rikl and Petr Nouza were drawn against second seeds Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten. Despite a fighting performance, they lost in straight sets.

👧👧 Junior Success: Kovačková Sisters Come Close
The second week of the Slam saw the junior events kick off, featuring Sparta's Alena and Jana Kovačková. Jana, the younger sister, reached the second round before losing in three sets to Brazil’s Barros. Alena advanced one round further but lost to Britain's Hannah Klugman, who went on to reach the final.

Together, the sisters had a spectacular run in the girls’ doubles. They reached the final and were close to a title, leading 6–4, 4–0 before their opponents, Bennemann/Zhenikhova, turned the match around to win 4–6, 6–4, 10–8 in supertiebrak.

Sparta Prague has every reason to be proud – their players proved themselves on one of tennis’s biggest stages. From breakthrough singles wins and doubles quarterfinals to near triumph in the junior final, the club continues to show its strength not just in experience but also in player development and future potential.
